Aego P5 MkI- Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I control the Aego with a universal remote?

A: The Aego P5 MkI can be control using a 'One for All' remote that is audio enabled, the code is 1438. The Aego P5 MkI and MkII can also be fully controlled by the Logitech 'Harmony' remote control range.

Q: “popping” sound when on DVD menu or skipping tracks.

A: This is due to the DVD player not having an auto-muting chip built-in, this will not affect film when playing normally and can only be solved with a different DVD player.

Q: Auto on/off switch not working.

A: The Auto on/off feature has a low sensitivity, which was designed to work with other manufacturers processors and not particularly with ours. The best way to leave the system on “standby” is simply to turn off the processor; this effectively shuts down the system, although you may still hear quiet mains “noise” through the satellites. If you still wish to try the Auto feature the best way is to turn the main system volume (on the front of the sub) to half way and turn the processor up louder than usual (this is not guaranteed to work, as it will depend on the volume of the source material but is the best option available). If the system is not going to be used for a period of time it can be turned off from the switch on the rear of the subwoofer.

Q: Processor only picking up Stereo signal when playing DVD’s.

A: The DVD Player’s Audio output has to be changed in its set-up menu to have a bitstream output rather than PCM. Note: this is in the DVD Player set-up, not the Aego’s. Please refer to you DVD players user manual.

Q: Is it better to use a Co-Axial or Optical cable to connect a digital source.

A: This is a disputed point but it is generally agreed that Co-Axial will give a slightly higher quality signal, although both work fine in practice. It is probably not worth changing one to the other just for a quality increase.

Q: Processor is cycling through inputs of its own accord, and/or switching into stereo for no particular reason.

A: This is a rare problem that occurred with a few faulty processor power-supplies giving out the wrong voltage, contact your local AE dealer for further help.

Q: Cannot play music in Dolby Pro-logic/TV signal does not come through in Pro-logic.

A: Press the Pro-logic button on the Aego remote until the processor display says “All PCM” this will result in the Aego playing all stereo sources in Pro-logic.

Q: Can I get longer connection leads for the system?

A: We will be able to provide a longer (10m) multi-pin connection lead for use between the processor and sub in the near future, contact your local AE dealer for availability and price.

Q: Can I buy stands for the satellite speakers?

A: We recommend the Alphason SS20 stand as the best for these speakers, although you will need the connection kit to fit them neatly, ask at your local AE dealer for more details.

Bass Management System

When you first turn your AEGOp5 decoder on, you may notice that the LEDs on the front panel are lit up as one red and five green. If this is the case, the default factory setting may not achieve the best performance from your AEGO5 system. To change the setting to suit your acoustic requirements press the  “Bass Manager” button on your remote control. For optimum bass performance we recommend a setting where all the LEDs are red.

Gain Structure

As the AEGO5 can be used with any Dolby Digital decoder it has to be very sensitive. This enables lower cost, less powerful decoders to be used without sacrifice of power output.

As the AEGO p5 decoder is of a high quality and has high output levels there may be a need to adjust the gain settings of the AEGO5 Subwoofer to achieve maximum effect and ensure that the Auto On-off function (if required) operates correctly. This should be undertaken once the system is set up and working correctly.

1)      Turn system on.

2)      Start DVD playing through system and make sure audio is working correctly.

3)      Turn volume knob of the AEGO5 subwoofer to minimum (fully anti-clockwise).

4)      Turn volume of decoder up to –6

5)      Now turn volume knob of AEGO5 subwoofer up to a normal listening volume that you are comfortable with.

You have now set the gain structure of the AEGOp5 system correctly and can continue to enjoy the wonders of Dolby Digital and DTS using the volume control on your remote to adjust your listening volume. If at a later date you wish to increase the system gain then make the adjustments in the same way.

Auto On-Off

When used with the AEGOp5 decoder this feature is not required. Simply turning the AEGOp5 decoder off will mute the whole system and put the AEGO5 subwoofer in to standby mode.

If you are using the AEGO5 with an alternative decoder then you may wish to use this function to automatically switch off the system when you are not using it.
