WiFi Firmware support

Firmware Update v257-a-181 - April 2007

We have released a new Firmware update for the AE WiFi radio. This adds many new features which are explained in more detail below.

To update your AE WiFi Radio please follow these instructions.

In the menu of the radio:

Configure > Upgrade Firmware > Yes

It will take approximately 5-25 minutes to upgrade to the new firmware (depending on the speed of your connection), you will see an on-screen progress percentage as the upgrade takes place. DO NOT turn off the radio during this process as this may render the radio inoperable.

After this process your radio will operate effectively as "new" so you will have to rescan for your network and enter any encryption key required.

If you find your radio reverting back to the original firmware version (198/105) rather than upgrading to the new one, please email - info@acoustic-energy.co.uk with the serial numbers from the bottom of your radio and from the , ,  menus. We will aim to make your radio able to receive the new firmware as soon as we can.

To check the Firmware version you are running or that the update has installed follow these instructions.

In the menu of the radio -

Configure > Version > Service Pack

(After the firmware upgrade is complete, the latest Service Pack should be v257-a-181).

New features -

Menu Changes

The Alarm clock set-up has now been moved below the "Stations", Configure" and "Media Player" options on the main menu for easier access.

The Continent step has been removed from the "Station" -> "Location" list for faster access.

Functionality Changes

Stations with "On demand" options will now have this selectable from the "My Stations" list as was not previously possible.

12/24 hour clock is now selectable in the clock options.

The Alarm function has been greatly improved to allow four different alarm times to be set, plus - "once", "every day", "weekly", "weekdays" and "weekends" options are now available. You can also choose the alarm to be a buzzer or select any recently played stations to play at the set alarm time.

Other Changes

Many bug fixes and compatibility issues with new operating systems have been addressed (these are not visible changes on the radio itself).

*Please note* When you select USA from the "Stations" list after a short while you will be sent back to the main menu. This is due to the large number of USA stations causing the automatic time-out to activate, the next time you go to the USA list the stations will already be loaded in. The USA list will remain loaded until the next time the radio performs a "Station update".

Firmware Update v255-c-105 - August 2006

New features -

"3 Bar" Menu system

The Radio menu will now display its options and stations in a vertical list which shows 3 stations at a time rather than the old horizontal scrolling single bar display used in the previous firmware versions. This also facilitates "Track Playing" information when listening to some stations using this feature in their data streams (below the chosen station name you will see the information of the current track playing where available).

Please note: You may have to disconnect the power supply and reload the "Stations" list a couple of times after the firmware update has completed for the new menus to come online.

Selecting this option will alter the Internet Radio's backlight values.

1. After selecting the "Backlight" menu item, the radio will display its list of three menu modes: "Inactive", "Active" and "Standby". These three states are explained below:

  • The radio gets into its "inactive" state when there is no user activity for 30 seconds.
  • The "active" state is when there is user activity.
  • "Standby" is the state when the radio has been turned off from the ON/OFF button.

2. Rotate the knob to highlight the desired menu mode and press SELECT.

3. The radio will now display the current backlight value for this menu mode. You can alter this value by rotating the knob to increase or decrease it.

Selecting this option will enable the Internet radio to switch itself off after a set period.

1. After selecting the "Sleep Timer" menu item, the radio will now display: "Sleep Timeout" and the sleep timer value in the form "00:00:00" (hours:minutes:seconds).

2. Rotate the volume knob to change sleep timer value and the press SELECT to begin the sleep timer.

3. The radio will continue to play as normal, but it will go into standby mode after the sleep timer has expired.

4. To turn the radio back on again, simply press the ON/OFF button.

This is a new feature offered by Reciva. This works as an addition to the 10 preset stations available on the radio itself by having an online list of your favourite stations available directly to your own radio. To set up your list you must go through the following process:

  • Click on the "Listen" tab and you can find the list of available stations by choosing "Browse by Genre" or "Browse by Location". When you find a station you want to add to your list click the "Add to my stations" link the the right of that particular station.
  • Your selected stations will now be viewable by clicking again on "My Account" followed by "My Stations", this is the list available to your radio.
  • The next time you download the stations' list to your radio will now be available, the stations' list on your radio is updated once per 24 hours or alternatively after power has been disconnected and reconnected to your radio.
