Acoustic Energy Unveils the new 500 Series
Acoustic Energy is proud to announce the launch of the new 500 Series, the latest evolution of its acclaimed 500 Series loudspeakers. Building on the foundations that established the original range as a benchmark for performance and value, the new Series introduces a host of significant engineering developments derived from the company’s flagship Corinium project.
The new range represents a comprehensive redesign, with substantial advances across the drive units, crossover network and cabinet construction. By applying lessons learned during the development of Corinium, Acoustic Energy has created a loudspeaker that delivers greater openness, naturalness and coherence while preserving the dynamics, balance and musical engagement for which the 500 Series is renowned.
At the heart of the new 500 Series is an extensively redeveloped driver complement. The bass/midrange driver features a new shallower carbon-fibre cone profile engineered to deliver a more natural tonal balance, while an entirely new motor system provides an ultra-linear inductance profile. Together, these advances produce a cleaner, more open midrange presentation, allowing voices and instruments to emerge with greater clarity, authenticity and freedom from coloration.
Complementing the new bass/mid driver is a 29mm soft-dome tweeter developed from the Corinium project, bringing flagship-level high-frequency technology to the range. Designed for exceptional refinement and integration, the tweeter contributes to the loudspeaker’s enhanced transparency and overall coherence.
Attention has also been focused on crossover design. Rather than optimising solely for frequency response, Acoustic Energy’s engineers have carefully developed the new crossover networks to achieve low group delay, ensuring improved phase integration and more coherent performance through critical crossover regions.
These advancements are housed within Acoustic Energy’s proven Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) cabinet construction, now enhanced with a new tapered cabinet profile designed to better control and disperse internal reflections. The cabinet, crossover and drive units have been developed as an integrated system, with every element working together to maximise overall performance.
The result is a loudspeaker range that pushes the 500 Series to a new level of sophistication, delivering greater transparency, improved imaging and a more natural presentation while retaining the musical character that has long defined Acoustic Energy products.
“One of the things we learned from developing Corinium was that quite small improvements in several different areas can add up to a very significant improvement in the finished loudspeaker,” said Mat Spandl, MD and Chief Designer at Acoustic Energy.
“That thinking runs right through 500 Series. We’ve looked carefully at the cone profile, the motor system, group delay in the crossover and even the way reflections behave inside the cabinet. The result is a much more open and natural-sounding loudspeaker, without losing the character that made the original 500 Series so successful.”
The 500 Series represents the next generation of Acoustic Energy loudspeaker design, combining technologies developed through the Corinium programme with the engineering discipline, performance and value that have defined the 500 Series for audiophiles and music lovers around the world.
